The Writing Center is Now Hiring Graduate Students to Facilitate Graduate Student Writing Groups

Job Announcement: The Writing Center is looking for a Group Writing Mentor with training in writing pedagogies and teaching experience to work in The Writing Center or the VOCES Graduate Student Writing Center.  Group Writing Mentors organize and conduct writing groups in collaboration with the VOCES Graduate Student Writing Center and other campus partners.  All Writing Mentors will participate in The Writing Center staff meetings and ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must either be pursuing or hold a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications: We are especially looking for group writing mentors who can promote and organize group meetings, facilitate writing groups, and gather and maintain a list of event participants.  We prefer applicants with a solid grasp of writing skills, multi-lingual and code-switching experience, a sound commitment to writing pedagogy, and teaching experience.  

We need Group Writing Mentors who are culturally-sensitive listeners, perceptive readers, excellent communicators, and energetic problem-solvers to organize and facilitate graduate student writing groups.  

Applicants experienced working with writers whose home language background is not English are especially welcome.  

Hours and Pay: The work schedule is negotiable, typically offering 4-9 hours per week. Pay range is up to $30.53 an hour, commensurate with training and experience.

Writing Mentors conduct individual tutoring appointments with undergraduate or graduate students, lead workshops and events sponsored by The Writing Center, and collaborate with our campus partners to support undergraduate and graduate student writers. All Writing Mentors will participate in The Writing Center staff meetings and ongoing professional development.

Graduate Writing Mentors will use their advanced training to help students develop their own ideas, strategies, and skills in university discourse.
